FARMINGTON — Veterans Day ceremonies are planned for Tuesday, Nov. 11, in Farmington and Wilton.

Farmington American Legion Post 28 will hold a wreath-laying ceremony at 11 a.m. at the World War I monument on Main Street. Another wreath-laying ceremony at the World War II Memorial in Meetinghouse Park will follow. Attendees are invited to the Post 28 hall for a lunch prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary before attending a larger veterans tribute at Wal-Mart.

The Wal-Mart program begins at 1 p.m. inside at Dunkin’ Donuts, Peter Zanoni, organizer for Wal-Mart, said. State Sen. Tom Saviello, R-Wilton, will emcee the program and will invite some WWII veterans to share a memory of their battles years ago, he said.

State Rep. Sheryl Briggs, D-Mexico, will honor Vietnam veterans, he said.

Maine State Police Trooper Reid Bond will bring his dog, Sting, to the service, Zanoni said. He will talk about how dogs insure military safety by detecting explosive devices and preventing explosions, he said.

Store Manager Greg Patterson will welcome attendees. The Franklin County Fiddlers will perform musical selections and the Emblem Club will perform its flag folding ceremony, he said.

Neighboring businesses, including Pizza Hut, KFC and Dunkin’ Donuts, will give out gift certificates to the veterans.

Zanoni said the service has become a tradition, he said.

A Veterans Day ceremony in Wilton begins at 9 a.m. at the monument on Main Street. Following a brief program, a wreath will be dropped into Wilson Stream.
