FARMINGTON — Barbara J. “Barbie” Waugh, 79, of Wilton, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday morning, Nov. 4, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Upper Mills, New Brunswick, Canada, to American citizens Clifford and Melva (Noble) Johnson. She was a graduate of Jay High School, Class of 1953, and on Sept. 26, 1953, married the love of her life, Dana Waugh, at her family’s home in North Jay. A devoted wife and mother, she happily worked outside of the home as a receptionist for a number of doctor and dentist offices.
With a strong desire to help others, she served her beloved community by working as an EMT in the early days of Wilton Volunteer Ambulance. She retired from a job that combined her people skills and devotion to her community, serving as a receptionist at SeniorsPlus.
For many years, Barbie was a member of Unit 4 of the Women’s Society of Christian Service at Wilton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time at camp on Porter Lake and always enjoyed being in the company of her daughters and grandchildren, some of whom called her “Nanna” or “Grammie Barbie Doll.”
She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Dana, of Wilton; two daughters, Debbie Macomber and her husband, David, of East Wilton and Patty Waugh of Wilton; four grandchildren, Melissa Hunt, Jonathan Macomber, Nicholas Godin and Brandi Chase; and seven great-grandchildren, Anna and Shamus Hunt, Haleigh and Colby Johnson Chase, Ashlyn and Karter Macomber and Ashley Dana Godin.
She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Shirley Brackett.
Tributes and condolences may be shared on her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
