1934 – 2014

SPRINGFIELD, Va.— Carole Ann Newcombe was born on Sept. 28, 1934, and passed away on Monday, Nov. 3.

She was the daughter of the late Dwight and Blanch Sturtevant of Lewiston. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1952.

She was a charter member of the Lewiston Assembly International Order of Rainbow Girls; a member of Mt. Olivet Chapter No. 29, Order of Eastern Star, now merged with Pine Cone Chapter No. 26 (a 61-year member); a past matron of Faith Chapter No. 177 in Annandale, Va.; a member and past queen of El Manrah Temple No. 132, Daughters of the Nile; and a past president of the Temple Forest Cedarettes.

She married Nelson O. Newcombe in September 1953, and accompanied him to Georgia, California, Germany and Virginia while he served in the U.S. Army. While living in Fort Benning, Ga., she served as chairwoman of the Red Cross volunteers. She retired from the Bank of America. She was an avid bowler in Germany, Georgia and Virginia.

She is survived by her husband, Nelson; their four children, Walter (June), Jeffrey (Becky), Dawn (Bill) and Judy; and seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Carole, Andrea, Lisa, William and June. She is also survived by her sister, Judy.
