1936 – 2014
FREEPORT — Monique G. Tardif, 78, of Freeport, died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 29, after Alzheimer’s slowly took her away from us.
She was born on Feb. 5, 1936, to Amedee and Genaise Gervais Dion in Lewiston. She graduated from St. Dominic High School in 1953. Monique met Gilles P. Tardif at St. Dom’s, and they were married on Feb. 12, 1955.
She was employed at Household Finance until they moved to Massachusetts, and they lived up and down the East Coast, where their four children were born and she was a stay-at-home mom. In 1973, Monique was hired as the office manager at Skate 3 in Tyngsboro, Mass., until her retirement in 2001.
Monique and Gilles retired to Freeport and became members of St. Jude’s Church. Her faith and the parishes she belonged to were very important to her.
Her hobbies were reading, knitting, ceramics and attending ballets and sporting events that her children and grandchildren were involved in.
Along with her husband, Gilles, she is survived by her children, Suzanne and her husband, Kevin Mager, of Derby, Vt., Michael Tardif of Toronto, Canada, Michele and her husband, John Fodero, of Jericho, Vt., and Gerard Tardif of Hudson, Mass. She is also survived by and was proud of her grandchildren, Patrick Mager and his fianceé, Bridget Dailey, Matthew Mager and his fianceé, Sara Artus, Jason, Michael and Elise Tardif, Anna and John Fodero and Attalissa, Connor and Eliza Tardif; her only sibling, Pauline “Jo” Albright, of New York, N.Y.; and two nieces and their families.
We would like to thank the staff and nurses who took care of Mom at the Sarah Frye Home and d’Youville Pavilion, 3 East. You are truly angels on Earth.
