100 years ago, 1914
The promenade concert given by the Cercle Canadien in Lewiston City hall, Thursday evening, was attended by a larger number than ever before. Attractively decorated booths on both sides of the hall were effective and the American and French flags were prettily arranged. The confetti throwing was a feature and the concert by St. Cecilia’s Boys’ Band was exceptionally enjoyable.

50 years ago, 1964
Three bags of flour used in the production of cookies at the Dane-T-Bits Biscuit Co. bakery in Auburn were stolen late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning in a break under investigation by Auburn police. Authorities said the wheat flour was taken from a freight car on a siding at the bakery on Rodman Road. The theft was discovered when a crew started Thursday morning to unload the freight car. They found the seal on the car door had been broken. In addition to the three bags of flour stolen, five others had been torn open. Police said that the flour can be used only in the baking of cookies.

25 years ago, 1989
Edward Little High School won third place in the state’s Sixth Annual Maine State Marching Band Championship Competition Saturday. Fourteen bands took part in the competition, sponsored by the Maine Band Directors Association. The competition took place under the lights at Walton Field. It was delayed one night because of weather. Following are the results of the competition. Classes depended on the number of members in each band. Class C: First place, Madison High School; second place, Livermore Falls High School; third place, Waterville High School. Class B: First place, Deering High School; second place, South Portland High School; third place, Old Orchard Beach High School. Class A: First place, Westbrook High School; second place. Mount Blue High School; third place, Edward Little High School.
