READFIELD — One man was killed and two others injured in a single-vehicle accident on Plains Road on Tuesday, according to police.

The name of the deceased man has not been released pending notification of family members, Chief Deputy Ryan Reardon of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office said.

The other two men, Thorr Ellis, 20, of Gardiner, who was the driver, and Bradley Plevyak, 19, suffered broken bones and internal injuries and were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Reardon said.

The accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. near box 228, according to Reardon. Ellis was driving north and apparently swerved to avoid a deer, and the vehicle spun out of control, struck a large boulder and sheared off a tree, Reardon said.

The vehicle came to rest on its roof in the woods, Reardon said.

State police are reconstructing the crash, which remains under investigation. Reardon said speed appears to be a factor.
