1961 – 2014

AUBURN — Woofie Allan Kent Turner, 52, of Linneus and formerly of Norway, died peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at the Hospice House, with his family by his side, after a courageous battle against cancer. Woofie was a resident of Linneus, where he lived with his wife and soul mate, Diantha (Burns), working on their farm since they moved there in 2008.

Woof is the father of two daughters, Summer and Echo, and the stepfather of Megan (Austin) Bott, all of whom he loved and to whom he devoted his life. Diantha, a high school classmate, was his muse, his passion and his most devoted partner. They were married on May 16, 1992, in South Paris.

Woof was born in Farmington on Nov. 28, 1961, and grew up in the Oxford Hills area. He graduated from Oxford Hills High School in 1980. He went on to attend Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, then worked as a screen printer at various shops throughout New England and New York.

In 2006, he graduated with honors from the University of Maine at Augusta, with a dual major in fine arts and behavioral science. His dream was to become an art therapist to help children cope with emotional issues.

He had a passion for music and was a very talented drummer since his youth, enjoying playing music in bands and with friends. He was an exceptionally gifted artist, photographer and sculptor, displaying his works at various Maine galleries and entering a number of juried shows. His sculpture, “911,” earned him an award.

Woofie also enjoyed fishing and camping with his family, especially in the Allagash with his dad, brothers and his uncle, Junior, of Farmington. He loved working alongside Diantha in their joint business venture, Mooncrazy Fibre Arts, selling their handcrafted soaps at craft fairs throughout New England.

For those of us who knew and loved him, we all know what it means when we say “Woof was Woof.”

Woofie leaves behind his wife, Diantha; daughters, Megan, Summer and Echo; his favored dog, Coda; his parents, Arthur and Alice Turner of Norway; older brother, Alden and his wife, Luanne (Paquette) Turner, of Windham; sister, Alison Wickson and her companion, John Donahue, of Buckfield; and younger brother, Andrew and his wife, Corrine (Cutler) Turner, of Otisfield. He has many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as numerous friends. He cherished them all. He was especially close to his cousin, Stephen Greene, of South Paris; and close friends, Steve McAllister and partner, Barbara Brunjes, of Oxford and Wade and Kim Ward of Buckfield.

Woof was predeceased by his grandparents, Howard R. Greene and Avis N. (Owen) Greene and Ralph Turner and Ina B. (Porter) Turner.
