A Jolly old-time husking bee was held recently at the home of Charles E. Jackson, Upper Main street, Lewiston. The plans for this affair were made by Joseph Patrie and Harold Folsom, when the corn was planted in the spring, and carried to a successful finish by them. About 45 gathered in the roomy barn and husked over 125 bushels of yellow corn. Following the work, the party was invited into the house where baked beans, brown and white bread, pickles, doughnuts, cake, pies, and coffee were served, after which games were played.

A handicapped voter who couldn’t come into a polling place was able to vote from his car Tuesday. Jackie Conway, warden of Ward 5, Auburn, said the man’s father came in to vote at the American Legion post on South Main Street and said his wheelchair bound son would have great difficulty coming into the building to vote. So Conway said ballots were brought out to the car. She said a Republican and a Democrat stood by while he filled out the ballot, which took about 20 minutes because of the 14 state referendum questions on one of the two ballots. The ballots were then put in an envelope and put through the electronic ballot machine. “It’s all part of the voting process,” Conway said.
