VERO BEACH, Fla. — Carroll G. Charron (née May) died in her home on Saturday, Oct. 18, in Vero Beach, Fla. She was 81.

Carroll was born in Auburn on Feb. 15, 1933, to John E. and Margaret E. (Shields) May. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1951. On June 5, 1954, Carroll married Charles A. “Andy” Charron, who predeceased her in 2003.

Andy, who worked in the paper industry, moved with Carroll from Maine to various locations throughout the U.S., including Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Wisconsin. Carroll cultivated many friends throughout her life and travels. After retiring with Andy to Fort Pierce, Fla., and later to Vero Beach, Fla., she came to meet many friends who she held as dear as family.

Carroll is survived by four children and three grandchildren: daughter, Ann Jacobsen, of Los Angeles, Calif.; son, Matthew Charron, of Charlotte, N.C.; son, Thomas Charron, of Amherst, Wis.; and son, David Charron, of Piedmont, Calif. Carroll is also survived by her cherished sister, Betty Hansen (née May), of Falmouth.

Never conforming to external definitions of who and what she should be, Carroll remained a consummate and pragmatic New Englander throughout her life: devoted to family and church, resilient to life’s inevitable hardships and eternally captivated by the energy of the ocean and forest. She will be forever remembered for her strength, generous spirit, love of family and faith in God.
