I am pleased that the majority of Lewiston citizens voted against legalizing marijuana. However, I have no doubt that Maine will eventually pass it into law, then what?

Some say that “pot” is less harmful than alcohol. Should one assume that people will stop drinking and switch to smoking “weed” instead, since it is less harmful? That defies logic. People will do both — double whammy.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. You can’t buy it, you can’t sell it and you can’t grow it, other than licensed growers for medical purposes. So, how is anyone supposed to get it without illegal practice? It doesn’t grow on trees.

I don’t see any harm for mature adults indulging in a little “pot” recreation in the privacy of their home. However, we all know it is not that simple.

Experimenting with smoking “pot” is instrumental in the high school drop-out rate. Let’s not hand it to them on a silver platter by making it legal. Teens naturally don’t need a reason to be defiant. Let’s not give them more reason to thumb their nose at authority.

Some people have promoted legalization for tax revenue. How insulting.

I believe the state of Maine can come up with a better plan to raise revenue than to turn the population into legal zombies.
