Danville Grange to meet Thursday

AUBURN — Danville Junction Grange 65 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13.

Present will be State Community Service Director Christine Corless to present an award to Officer Tom Poulin of the Auburn Police Department. Poulin won second place in the State Grange “Officer of the Year” contest.

A Thanksgiving program will be presented by the lecturer. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and friends are welcome.

Eastern Star chapter to honor veterans

AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.

The chapter will honor veterans with a special program by organist Eleanor Peterson. Refreshments will be served in the dining hall following the meeting.

All Eastern Star members are welcome.

Round table to hear talk in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK — Joshua L. Chamberlain Civil War Round Table Lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Curtis Memorial Library’s Morrell Room, 23 Pleasant St.

Speaker will be Jared Peatman on “The Long Shadow of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.” Lectures are free and open to the public.

LEWISTON — The Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Veterans Center, 35 Westminster St. Members should bring a bag lunch and Christmas gifts for the veterans. Prospective members are welcome.

Lynn Plourde’s school author visit

LEWISTON — Maine children’s book author Lynn Plourde will visit Geiger Elementary School on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 13 and 14.

During an opening assembly, Plourde will share books interactively on slides and turn one into a simple play. She will then meet with smaller groups of students over the two days to share extra stories and writing advice. Call Geiger Elementary School at 795-4160 for more information.

Plourde has had 28 children’s books published, including her newest, “You’re Wearing THAT to School?!” Her next book, “Merry Moosey Christmas,” will be published later in 2014. Video read-alouds, learning activities and a blog on teaching writing are available on her www.lynnplourde.com website. Plourde is a Skowhegan native who currently lives in Winthrop.

Band to play at Eagles Club

Craft/vendor fair is Nov. 15

AUBURN — The Elves Workshop Craft/Vendor Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at Norway savings Bank Arena, second floor.

Proceeds will benefit the Christmas Adopt a Family Program.

There will be lots of great vendors and some amazing crafters.

Burnt Meadow, Dillingham DAR

AUBURN — On Saturday, Nov. 15, Burnt Meadow Chapter of Sabattus, NSDAR will hostess a joint meeting with Mary Dillingham Chapter, NSDAR, the state regent, Sandra Swallow, and other MSODAR officers at the High Street Congregational Church, 106 Pleasant St.

The members will meet at 11 a.m. and enjoy a ‘bring your own’ bag lunch while discussing the important business at hand.

Christmas fair at Lisbon Methodist

LISBON — The Lisbon United Methodist Church will hold their annual Christmas fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the church, 14 School St.

There will be baked goods, candy and fudge, a cookie walk table, crafts, wreaths and Christmas arrangements, and a recycled Christmas area.

Cookbooks and Hannaford gift cards will be for sale.

A beef stew lunch including bread, beverage and dessert will be available.

Auburn Art Club meets Nov. 17

AUBURN — The next meeting of the Auburn Art Club will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at the Park Avenue Methodist Church.

The speaker will be Cindy Visbaras, who is the vice president of communications for the Maine Modern Quilt Guild, currently in its third year. She will discuss the recent evolution of modern quilting, showcasing fabrics, techniques and ideals embraced by modern quilters. She will also define common elements most often found in modern quilts.

Debby Dwyer is chairman of the committee for this meeting and will be assisted by Joyce Campbell and Carol Seward. All members are encouraged to attend. Dues are due. See treasurer Louise Reynolds if you have not yet paid for 2014-15.
