High school ski team seeks donations

RUMFORD — People in the River Valley are invited to help the Friends of Falcon Skiing raise money to cover the cost of sending approximately 30 members of the Mountain Valley High School ski team to the Class C state meet at northern Maine’s Bigrock Mountain in February. The Friends of Falcon Skiing have organized several campaigns beginning this week to defray costs of the trip.

The group is raffling off prizes including a cord for wood, Sunday River ski tickets, a handmade queen-size quilt and barbecue propane tank refills. Raffle tickets are available from ski team members, as well as at Black Mountain’s second annual auction on Friday, Nov. 21.

Additionally, skiers and other members of the group will be at various outside locations in Rumford and Mexico to accept monetary donations on Nov. 14 and 15.

The group also will hold a bottle drive from Dec. 1-6. People are invited to drop off their bottles between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Adley’s Auto Sales, 486 Prospect Ave., at the top of Falls Hill in Rumford. Donors may contact group member John Pepin at 440-7803 or [email protected] if they have a large number of bottles to be picked up, or if they would like to make a monetary donation.
