Maine Poet Laureate to read at LPL

LEWISTON — Maine Poet Laureate Wesley McNair will read from his newly published poetry collection, “The Lost Child,” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.

Caring for the Caregiver presentation

LEWISTON — A free presentation on “Caring for the Caregiver” will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Lepage Large Conference Room, 99 Campus Ave.

One of the most important and frequently overlooked things a caregiver can do for their loved ones is to take good care of themselves. Often, caregivers are so focused on making sure everyone’s needs are met that they don’t take the time to look after themselves.

Yasmine King, FNP-C, and Jennifer Hazen, BSN, RN, OCN, from St. Mary’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, will discuss the physical and emotional toll of caregiving, ways to reduce stress, how to improve your overall health and where to find support resources.

Marine Corps League Detachment

LEWISTON — Marine Corps League Detachment 810 will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at Holy Cross Church on Lisbon Street.

All Marines are welcome. The group meets on the last Thursday of every month, except in November and December.

The meetings are held in the basement; enter on the left side of the church where a Marine flag will be visible by the entrance.

Substitute teacher training class

TURNER — A substitute teacher training class will be held Nov. 20 sponsored by MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education. This is one step in the sub teacher application process for the District.

School expectations, teacher’ s lesson plans and assertive discipline will be explored. A high school diploma is required, college degree preferred.

Sabattus Seniors’ Christmas party

SABATTUS — Sabattus Seniors will have their Christmas Party on Thursday, Dec. 4, at C.J. Hall on Webster Street.

The meal will consist of chicken, potatoes, meatballs, vegetables, cake and a fruit bar with chocolate fountain. Price is $8.

There will be musical entertainment.

Effective in February the price for meals at the hall will be $6. It was voted at the last meeting that the meeting will start at 1:15 p.m. or when the kitchen work has been completed. Therefore, if you plan to attend the meeting only, be sure to be there by 1 p.m.

Holiday fair at Sixth St. Congre.

AUBURN — The annual holiday fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Sixth Street Congregational Church, 109 Sixth St.

Items include hand-knit crafts, baked goods, jewelry, white elephants, homemade candies, quilt and basket raffles, 50-50 and book table.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Children will be able to visit with Santa.

GRAY — First Congregational Church of Gray will hold their annual Holly Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, in the Parish House (behind McDonald’s) in Gray Center.

There will be an abundance of handmade gifts to please everyone on your list. Items will include Cabot’s Private Stock cheddar, fudge, freshly made wreaths, baked goods, a Cookie Trail and Rada knives.

Children can attend a movie and cookie decorating while parents shop. Early shoppers can enjoy Thompson’s doughnuts and coffee. For lunch there will be haddock chowder, corn chowder and a variety of sandwiches all made by Women’s Fellowship.

GREENE — The Greene Christian Community Church (formerly called the Universalist Church of Greene) will hold its Snowman Holiday Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the church on Route 202.

POWNAL — The Spirit of Christmas Fair will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road.

Santa will visit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6.
