GARDINER — The Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit arrested a Gardiner man on Wednesday on charges of gross sexual assault of a young child and possession of child pornography, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

A search of 21-year-old Christian Cooper’s apartment on Elm Street in Gardiner turned up a large quantity of child porn images on his computers and other electronic storage devices, McCausland said in a news release.

A forensic exam of Cooper’s computers will determine if Cooper took photos of the assault with which he is charged, McCausland said.

As of late Wednesday, Cooper was being held without bail at Kennebec County Jail.
