1919 – 2014
AUBURN — Mary E. Hinkley, 95, formerly of 122 Second St., died Thursday, Oct. 23, at Clover Health Care.
Born in Lewiston on Feb. 1, 1919, she was a daughter of Charles and Regina Arsenault Roberts. Educated in local schools, she was employed for many years as a spinner in the textile industry.
A devoted mother and grandmother, she was an excellent cook and loved having her family over for Saturday beans and Sunday dinner.
Survivors include a son, Walter and wife, Sue, of Auburn; a daughter, Margaret and husband, Robert Belanger, of Lewiston; a brother, Richard Roberts and wife, Lorraine, of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Marc and Daniel Ouellette of Phoenix, Ariz., Michael and wife, Amy Hinkley, of Auburn, Debbie and husband, Michael Carrier, of Saco, Diane Plunkett of Lewiston and Richard Ouellette and wife, Misty, of Lewiston, with whom Mary lived since 2008; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a son, William; five brothers, Fred, Sam, William, John and Albert Roberts; and four sisters, Arlene Hiscock, Jane Cote, Regina Strout and Patricia Bissonette. She was also predeceased by her longtime friend and domestic partner, Edward Driscoll.
The family would like to thank Steve Swett, Deanna Albert and the rest of the staff at Clover Health Care, and Margaret Quinn and the rest of the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for all the devoted and loving care and companionship they gave Mary.
