1926 – 2014

LEWISTON — Simonne A. Nadeau, 88, of Stanley Street and recently of Montello Heights, where she became reacquainted with many old friends and made many new ones, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, with her loving husband of 67 years by her side and surrounded by family and friends.

Simonne was born in Lewiston on Feb. 21, 1926, a daughter of George Henri and Emelda (Callier) Fontaine. She was educated at Holy Family School and graduated from Lewiston High School, Class of 1943. While in school, she worked at the Home Bakery on Pine Street, then at Begin’s Market on Pine Street.

She married the love of her life, Louis R. Nadeau, at Holy Family Church on Aug. 23, 1947. Together, Simonne and Louis owned and operated Louis Market in Lewiston for many years. She discovered a love for jewelry and after they closed their store, Simonne went to work as a jewelry clerk for stores such as Nolin’s, J. Dostie Jewelers, Value House Jewelers, Baribault Jewelers and most recently Paul Rodrigue Jewelers for over 50 years.

Simonne enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends. She loved to go shopping, going from store to store and always leaving with at least one full bag. She and Louis enjoyed going out to dinner with their friends, when they would gab about the old times and talk about their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Simonne was a devout member of Holy Family Church, Ladies of St. Anne Sodality, since 1966, holding many positions and lastly as treasurer for years. She also received the award for Mother of the Year, which she and her family were very proud of. Together, Simonne and Louis would travel — from the many day trips they took simply exploring wherever the roads took them, to bus trips to Atlantic City and even snow birding many winters in Florida; she liked to be on the move.
