Auburn Art Club meets Nov. 17
AUBURN — The next meeting of the Auburn Art Club will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at the Park Avenue Methodist Church.
The speaker will be Cindy Visbaras, who is the vice president of communications for the Maine Modern Quilt Guild, currently in its third year. She will discuss the recent evolution of modern quilting, showcasing fabrics, techniques and ideals embraced by modern quilters. She will also define common elements most often found in modern quilts.
Debby Dwyer is chairman of the committee for this meeting and will be assisted by Joyce Campbell and Carol Seward. All members are encouraged to attend. Dues are due. See treasurer Louise Reynolds if you have not yet paid for 2014-15.
Christian skate night planned
TOPSHAM — Grace Community Chapel in West Gardiner will hold a Christian skate night from 5:45 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, at Topsham Roller World, 20 Atwood Road.
The $5 cost includes skate rental. Inline skates are $2 extra. There is no entrance fee for those not able to skate.
Concession food will be available.
QuickBooks course starts Dec. 2
AUBURN — The Corporate and Community Services Department at Central Maine Community College will offer Introduction to QuickBooks on Tuesdays, Dec. 2 through Jan. 13, from 9 to 11 a.m. Deadline for registration is Nov. 19.
QuickBooks is the one of the most popular small-business computer accounting packages available. This course will be taught using QuickBooks Premier 2011, although many of the skills learned and processes will be transferable to other version of QuickBooks. Class participants will learn how to set up an accounting system for a company, manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, create invoices, print checks and create financial statements. While there are no prerequisites, a basic understanding of Microsoft Windows is recommended.

Seminar: Protect your consumer info
LEWISTON — On Wednesday, Nov. 19, from noon to 1 p.m., YPLAA will host a no-cost seminar at the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, 415 Lisbon St., on protecting consumer information this holiday season.
Join Genevieve Herring Sr., risk and compliance specialist at TD Bank, and technical guru Carl Sheline as they review ways to protect yourself and your bank account while shopping.
Whether you shop online or in stores, digital thieves are constantly looking for ways to steal your personal information.

TOPS chapter plans bake sale
LEWISTON — TOPS 0192, Lewiston will sponsor a bake sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Montello Heights, 550 College St., in the lobby.
TOPS is a nonprofit weight loss support group. The chapter meets on Wednesday mornings at Montello Heights in the sun room. All money earned will help cover the cost of awards and traveling expenses to State Recognition Days or International Recognition Days. All are welcome to visit.

Law Enforcement Career Day at CMCC
AUBURN — The Criminal Justice program at Central Maine Community College will host a Law Enforcement Career Day from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, in the Kirk Hall Gymnasium at CMCC on Turner Street.
Criminal justice professionals from throughout the state will be on hand with recruitment materials and information about career opportunities in law enforcement and corrections. Various local and county departments will be represented and among the state agencies expected to participate are the Maine Warden Service, Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Department of Corrections and the State Police.
