AUBURN — A man and two women were behind bars Thursday after drug agents searched a home on Laurel Avenue and recovered more than $23,000 worth of crack cocaine.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said complaints from neighbors led them to 24 Laurel Ave. where 230 grams of crack, eight grams of heroin and a firearm were seized.

At the home, police arrested Jonathan Banyan, 28, and Danish Purdy, 20, each of Brooklyn. Both were charged with aggravated drug-trafficking. Purdy was charged additionally on a count of illegal importation of drugs.

Also arrested was Rebecca Thompson, 33, who lives at the Laurel Avenue residence. She was charged with aggravated trafficking in both crack and heroin.

Police said Banyan, at the time of his arrest, was free on parole in New York where he had been convicted of weapons charges. He was being held without bail at the Androscoggin County Jail.

Purdy and Thompson were being held at the jail on $35,000 cash bail.

Investigators said they were led to the Laurel Avenue home after receiving reports of people going in and out of the home at all hours. The drugs recovered had been pre-packaged for distribution, police said.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency has arrested five people and recovered more than $50,000 worth of drugs in less than a week. Last Friday, a pair of Brooklyn men were arrested after police said they had been dealing crack out of a Lewiston motel room.
