1921 – 2014
AUBURN — Helen L. Johnson, 93, a former resident of Sawyer Road in Greene, died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, Nov. 14, at Clover Manor.
She was born in Greene on March 24, 1921, a daughter of Fred and Grace Knight Bragg. Helen attended schools in Greene. On Jan. 17, 1941, in Lewiston, she and Howard E. Johnson Sr. were married; Howard died on May 18, 2004.
She was a wonderful mom and homemaker, and also had time to work in the local shoe shops, the egg farm in Greene and for Geiger Brothers in Auburn. Helen enjoyed her flower and veggie gardens and enjoyed canning veggies. She also enjoyed crocheting, beano and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen was a member of the Eastern Star for many years. In spring 2014, Helen received the Boston Cane for being the oldest living person in Greene.
She is survived by her children, Howard Jr. and his wife, Glenda, of Lewiston, Ronald T. and his wife, Bonnie, of Greene and Brenda Poland and her husband, Charles, of Turner; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Howard; and many brothers and sisters.
