1922 – 2014

BIDDEFORD — Roger H. Breton, 92, of Dayton, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Southern Maine Health Care.

He was born to Fredolin and Annie (Paradis) Breton on July 4, 1922, in Lewiston. He attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1939.

On April 11, 1942, he married Jeannette Y. Couturier at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston.

Roger proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was wounded in Germany on Feb. 23, 1945. For his outstanding bravery, he was awarded the Purple Heart.

Upon his return, he worked in the Lewiston textile mills for eight years. In May 1953, he started working for the U.S. Postal Service, until his retirement in November 1980.

Roger was a lifetime member of the Biddeford VFW and DAV, as well as a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He enjoyed playing golf, tending to his flower garden and wintering in Florida.

Roger is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jeannette Breton, of Dayton; five daughters, Charlene Croteau and her husband, Joseph, of Dayton, Joline Phillips and her husband, Frederick, of Scarborough, Rachelle Knight and her husband, Clifford, of Scarborough, Michelle Greenier and her husband, Gary, of Westbrook and Lynette Breton and her partner, Anne-Marie D’Amico, of Harpswell; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Janice Breton; a sister, Noella Nickerson; and a brother, Lionel Breton.
