Update: Driver in Auburn accident recovering from brain cancer surgery

AUBURN — Four vehicles collided Monday night, including one head-on collision that sent one to the hospital.

According to Lt. Scott Watkins of the Auburn Police Department, several officers were dispatched to the Veterans Memorial Bridge around 7:11 p.m. for a report of a head-on crash.

Upon arrival, it was determined that four vehicles were involved in the crash.

A GMC pickup truck operated by Jeremy Dix, 27, of Lewiston was traveling west toward Wal-Mart and crossed the center line, according to Watkins, striking a Ford Focus driven by Lane Burnham, 19, of Monmouth, who was traveling east toward Lewiston.

Burnham spun around, making contact with a Nissan pickup truck driven by Erica Rice of Auburn, who was following Dix west toward Wal-Mart.

Dix continued on after striking Burnham, striking a Jeep Commander driven by Sarah-Ann Kemp, 24, of Lewiston head-on.

Dix was unresponsive and taken to Central Maine Medical Center for treatment. Once at the hospital, Watkins said his condition improved and was able to communicate with officers.

Burnham was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant and for operating after suspension, Watkins said.
