RUMFORD — After the Muskie Auditorium at Mountain Valley High School sustained severe damage from a leaking roof last spring, Principal Matt Gilbert hoped that it would be repaired in time for the fall play. Last week, the theater arts class finally received permission to stage the play in the auditorium.

On Nov. 20, 21 and 22, the students will present “Flowers for Algernon” beginning at 7 p.m.

The play deals with experimental surgery to increase intelligence in a mouse, Algernon, and a man, Charlie. While initially successful, the surgery has long-term consequences for both.

Directed by theater arts teacher Natalie Simmons, the cast includes Jacob Simard, Ronald Russell, Kristin Arsenault, Corbin Arsenault, Tucker Phelps, Kortney Chapman, Eric Thomas, Taylor Smart, Mackenzie Irish, Conor Jacobson, Breann Ross, Dalton Milledge, Kelli Trenoweth, Kayla Drapeau, Josephine Buccinna, Alexis Vining, Emily Little, Jacob O’Leary, Angela O’Leary, Jill Conant, Josh Maillet, Abby LaBrash and Hannah Leonard. Party guests and lecture students include Random Gurney, Callahan Prendergast, Abbi Wheeler, Kyle Bartlett, Chanelle Carey, Cheyenne White and Nadia Briggs.
