Max Southam of Bethel was recently recognized as one of the two athletes of the month for October. Max dominated every mountain bike race he entered this year, finishing on the podium every single time. He was the highest point scoring male rider in the league this season and as a team captain he helped to lead the Gould Academy Mountain Bike Team to the 2014 New England Championship. Max and his father, Peter Southam (Gould’s Mountain bike team coach), also biked the Tour Divide together this past summer (2,735 miles with around 200,000 feet of climbing). The Gould Mountain Bike Team won every race that that the cyclists competed in this season, against 200-plus riders.
