1958 – 2014

AUBURN — Robert “Bobby” Brown, 56, of Poland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Hospice House, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Norway on April 5, 1958, to Walter and Louise (Boyker) Brown. He attended Poland Community School and graduated from Oxford Hills High School in 1976.

He worked as a bus driver and while there, he met his wife of 25 years, Wendy. He worked for the Maine Department of Transportation as a supervisor and truck driver for 25 years. Prior to that, Bobby worked for Northeast Bank as a courier for 10 years. He had also worked as a per diem deputy for the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.

Bobby always hit the ground running and lived life to the fullest. He had a passion for NASCAR; his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. He spent many fun weekends at camp, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling.

He spent summers coaching and playing adult softball. No. 24 was known as the No. 1 coach and the team often said “regardless of how the season ended, we always had the coach of the year.” Bobby also enjoyed attending the countless cheering competitions for his three girls. He served with Poland Fire and Rescue in the 1970s and 1980s, and was a member of the Poland Planning Board.
