SOUTH PORTLAND — The Maine Buddy Program needs people willing to become volunteer “buddies” to help support cancer survivors and their loved ones.

The Maine Buddy Program is a telephone-based, peer support program for people who are living with cancer, their family, caregivers and those who are grieving a loss due to cancer. Participants are matched with a trained volunteer “buddy” who has had a similar experience.

A “buddy” is available to talk though concerns, different treatments, discuss resources and provide emotional support for participants. Buddies can make all the difference to another person during their cancer journey.

If you are a cancer survivor or have supported a loved one through their cancer journey and you feel ready to lend a listening ear to someone going through similar experiences, or if you have lost a friend, a spouse or other relative to cancer and would like to apply to become a Maine Buddy, call 774-2200 or email at [email protected].
