JAY — William R. Meserve, “Bill,” 75, of Jay, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, Nov. 21, at the home of his caregivers, Eliza and Jason Lucarelli, where he had made his home since August 2013.
He was born in Livermore Falls on March 18, 1939, the son of Russell and Eloise (Mandigo) Meserve.
Bill was a dedicated employee of International Paper Co. for over 40 years. He was president of UPIU Local 14 and was a member of the Quarter-Century Club. He was passionate about flying and was self-employed as the owner of Meserve Aviation, and sold aviation equipment.
He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the George Bunton American Legion Post in Livermore Falls and the Lane-Dube AMVETS Post No. 33 of Jay.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, ice fishing at Schoodic Lake and deep-sea fishing. He also enjoyed traveling, attending car shows, searching out his favorite casinos and was a NASCAR enthusiast. He loved his beloved dogs, Ching and Cosmo.
Bill will be long remembered for his willingness and readiness to help anyone or to lend a hand.
Bill is survived by his children, his son, William J. Meserve and his wife, Trudi, of Jay; his daughters, Barbara Richards and her husband, Stephen, of Jay, Susan Vogel and her husband, Keith, of Queensbury, N.Y., and Ann Christie of Fayette; seven grandchildren, Fallon Smith and her husband, Kris, Kyle Richards, Shayna Meserve, Kayla Meserve, Eric Vogel, Joshua Vogel and Alyssa Black; two great-grandchildren, Kadence and Brody Smith; sisters, Connie Brown, Rhonda Small and her husband, Manford, and Laurali Bonney; his father- and mother-in-law, Olindo and Janet (Reed) Lucarelli; brother-in-law, Robbie Lucarelli; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sondra J. Lucarelli; his mother, Eloise (Mandigo) Doiron; his father, Russell Meserve; stepmother, Kay Meserve; and nephew, Corey Small.
