FARMINGTON — A Corinna man and his 17-year-old son have been charged with breaking into a Salem Township home and stealing 11 guns, State Police Trooper Reid Bond said Wednesday.

Ammunition and other items were also taken in the Nov. 13 burglary, he said.

David A. Ireland, 53, was arrested Monday on felony charges of theft of a firearm, burglary and aggravated furnishing of drugs to a minor, Bond said.

His son was charged on felony theft and burglary charges, Bond said.

Each charge carries a 10-year prison sentence and a $20,000 fine.

Bond, who has been investigating the burglary since it was reported, said he received information from Newport police Lt. Randy Wing that Ireland had pawned one of the stolen guns at a pawnshop in Newport.

Bond and Maine State Trooper Christopher Crawford executed a search warrant at Ireland’s home but did not find the guns.

State police Sgt. Jason Richards interviewed the teenager, who confessed that he and his father had stolen the guns, Bond said.

He said the teenager also gave police crushed Ritalin that he said his father had given him.

Ireland was being held Wednesday morning on $5,000 cash bail at the Franklin County jail in Farmington.

At least one of the guns, which included a mix of handguns, rifles and shotguns, has been recovered, Bond said.

The combined value of the guns is more than $5,000, the trooper said.
