DEAR SUN SPOTS: You are so helpful. Now I hope that I can help you help G.G. from Lisbon Falls whose letter about her pellet stove was in the Nov. 18 column.

If she qualifies for Li-Heap fuel assistance for low-income people and has applied for that assistance, it’s possible that the Community Action, which handles those applications, may be able to help with funding repairs on the stove (either fully or partially), especially if the household has no heat.

If an application has not been made to Li-Heap, it may be possible to apply now. I’m not sure if help is available, but it won’t hurt to ask. Just call the phone number for Community Action in that area. — The Rev. M.E. Proctor, [email protected]

ANSWER: Thank you for the suggestion. It should be helpful for many readers. To reach the Maine Community Action Association, call 207-645-3764, ext. 5114.

Meanwhile, G.G. recently updated Sun Spots on her progress with her pellet stove. Cory, the manager at Aubuchon’s in Lisbon Fall, stayed on the problem and searched until he found another repairman to help — Ron from Wiscasset (207-754-6416).

G.G. said Ron reinstalled her stove and got it running at a very reasonable price. She has stocked up on her pellets and is ready to go for the winter, thanks to Cory and Ron.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your Nov. 15 column and noticed the phone line hours listed for the Consumer Protection Service in the Attorney General’s Office were incorrect. Our phones are open for consumer calls from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Thank you for providing valuable information to Maine consumers. — Martha Currier, complaint examiner, Consumer Information and Mediation Service; administrator, Lemon Law Arbitration Program

ANSWER: Thank you for letting Sun Spots know. Her Rolodex has been updated.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there a place in the Lewiston-Auburn region that accepts used dolls and toys for underprivileged children? — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: The only thing Sun Spots can think of is to give those items to charities such as the Salvation Army or Goodwill so parents can buy inexpensive gifts for their children. But perhaps readers will have a better suggestion.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Just an FYI pertinent to the Nov. 18 question about a marble-top coffee table. All marble is classified as a metamorphic rock, meaning that it has undergone a transformation from another type of rock due to the heat and pressure it was exposed to beneath the surface of the earth. — C.C., East Kingston, N.H.

ANSWER: That is very interesting, but how does it help the Lisbon reader take care of his table? Please write and explain more.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your Nov. 17 column where someone asks about school flashing-light signs that say 15 mph and asking if when school is not in session do they still need to drive 15 mph. I have noticed a lot of school signs will say 15 mph when children are present. I hope that’s helpful. — Ruth, Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots guesses you missed the Nov. 8 column, where it was explained that the phrase “when children are present” is being phased out and replaced with “when lights are flashing” to avoid confusion.

You can read the previous column at sunjournal.com/news/sun-spots/2014/11/08/15-mph-rules-school-zones/1613484

Any time the lights are flashing, children around or not, drivers should slow down. It is very rare those lights malfunction (flash when school is out of session), so better safe than sorry. It’s not that difficult to slow down for a few hundred yards.
