1946 – 2014

CHATHAM, N.H. — On Monday, Nov. 24, Louise R. McKenzie passed away peacefully after a long battle with lung cancer.

She was born on June 6, 1946, in Quincy, Mass. Louise was predeceased by her parents, Alice Robertha Montieth Prescott Krause and Frederick Herman Krause.

She is survived by her brother, Frederick Prescott Krause; daughter, Erin and her husband, Richard; daughter, Heidi and her husband, Earl; son, Jacob; and six grandchildren, Devon, Alexis, Owen, Noah, Oliver and Odin.

Louise grew up on the Massachusetts shoreline of Germantown and in Hingham, Mass. From there, she went on to Pierce Secretarial School in Boston. She lived in Hingham until 1985, when she moved with her family to Chatham, N.H., where she resided for the past 29 years.

Louise worked for Northway Bank (formerly Berlin City Bank), where she began as a teller and worked her way up the ranks to commercial lending assistant. Prior to that, you might have seen Louise working in the jewelry department of Ames Department Store in North Conway, N.H.

Louise was dedicated to making a difference in her community. She was highly involved in the Chatham Historical Society, the North Fryeburg Fire Department and the school board throughout the 30 years she lived in Chatham.

Following her passion for agriculture and crafts, Louise was a well-known and much-loved friendly face in the agricultural barn at the Fryeburg Fair. She was an expert in most any craft and was happy to give advice to anyone who asked. When she wasn’t busy judging or helping to run the expo, she would be sitting in the corner spinning wool or knitting.
