1937 – 2014

COCOA Beach, Fla. — Helen Collins Weymouth, 77, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., formerly of Augusta, passed away suddenly at Holmes Medical Center on Saturday, Nov. 22, from complications after surgery.

She was born in Lewiston on Jan. 21, 1937, the first daughter of Thomas and Melvina (Thibodeau) Collins. She graduated with honors from Lewiston High School in 1955. A popular student with a sharp wit and keen sense of humor, she had many friends and admirers. As such, she was voted wittiest by her senior classmates.

It was during this time that she caught the eye of one suitor in particular, her “Bobby” from Augusta, whom she married on Aug. 4, 1956.

She worked as an administrative assistant until she started a family.

She was well-known for having an open, loving heart, as well as an open door to their home.

Her passions and interests included the coast, reading, watching classic movies, water aerobics and learning new skills on her computer. After being a stay-at-home mother of six children and running a home day care for more than two decades, she went back to work as a claims adjuster for USF & G Insurance Company in Augusta.

She and her beloved husband, Robert, then retired and enjoyed their winters at their home on Cocoa Beach, Fla., and summered on the lakes of Maine, where she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She leaves behind her devoted husband of 58 years, Robert; a son, Stephen Weymouth and his wife, Andrea, of Auburn; daughters, Barbara Weymouth Harrington and her husband, David, of Chuluota, Fla., Julie Weymouth Kasperbauer and her husband, Justin, of Central City, Neb., Jennifer Weymouth Richards and her husband, Lee, of Whitefield and Mary Weymouth Thurston and her husband, Steve of Lunenburg, Mass.

She was predeceased by her son Jeffrey in 2004.

Her survivors also include her sister, Dorice Collins Flanders; nine beloved grandchildren, Heather, Garrett, Eliza, Isaac, Jordan, Griffin, Thomas, Matthew and MaryElizabeth; and two great-grandchildren, Lanee and Emery.
