Although the tale may be a familiar one, the director and cast have taken care to find new and interesting things to say about the lovely young girl, the wicked queen, and the friendly dwarves.
“We all know the story of Snow White,” said Baard, “so our primary challenge with this production has been how to find something fresh and genuine in such a well-known and beloved fairytale. On top of that, fairytales pose a unique challenge because of their magical elements and archetypal characters. So we’ve been working on finding a balance, remembering that behind the poisoned apples and magic mirrors there are real people with very human responses (jealousy, love, desperation, compassion) without losing that special element that makes a fairytale a fairytale.”
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2 p.m. on Sundays, Dec. 12-21. All tickets are suggested $12 and are available at theaterproject.com, by calling 207-729-8584, or visiting 14 School Street.
