PORTLAND — The Constellation Gallery’s, home of the Maine Artist Collective, call for art received entrees from all over Maine. As a result, MAC’s Miniatures exhibit is the collective’s largest exhibit ever, with over 110 original works. The show runs until Jan. 27. All the work measures 11 x 14 inches or smaller, including the frames used.

With art from all across Maine in the “Miniatures” exhibit, MAC will celebrate in conjunction with Portland’s Thursday, Dec. 11, Merry Madness, and a special Saturday opening, Saturday, Dec. 20.

The unique pieces range from photographs to paintings and black-and-white prints, from abstracts to realism. Some artists exhibit internationally, others choose to exhibit in Maine only.

The artists with works in the exhibit are:

Julie Breau, Mike Breau, Nancy Clark, Lisa A. Crothers, Ramona du Houx, Rick Green, Kyler Hennisen, Jean Kigel, David A Marshall, Whitley Marshall, Paul Noel, Wayne Ross, Bob Reimann, Margaret Smith, Nancy Samacki, Virginia E. Souza, and Ann Tracy.

“Mini art pieces make great gifts for the holidays and the Constellation Gallery,” said David Marshall, MAC’s President and Portland City Councilor. “We’re excited to be able to show so many Maine original art works.”

Published teachers and students of Waynflete School will read their poems at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, in the spirit of Merry Madness night.

The teachers are: John W. Hoy, who has been teaching at Waynflete School since 1995. Small bits of his writing have appeared in Connecticut, New York, and here in Maine. Jim Millard, who has been teaching a poetry course and is becoming a delighted, if nascent poet. And Jeri Theriault who has three chapbooks — her poems have been published in journals. A Fulbright recipient (1998-99), Theriault teaches in the English Department.

The gifted students are: senior Julian Ireland who is Waynflete’s Poet Laureate. He has been writing poetry/songs since the sixth grade; and Fox Maasch, a senior who attended the New England Young Writer’s Conference at Middlebury College’s Breadloaf Campus in 2014.

To celebrate the response from the call for art and the holiday season the gallery will hold a special holiday reception and will be open from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20.

The gallery is at 511 Congress Street and is open Monday noon-4 p.m., Wednesday 1-5 p.m., Friday noon-4 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Gallery is also open by appointment: call 207-409-6617.
