JAY — Selectpersons will hold a special town meeting Monday to ask voters to transfer $6,000 from the undesignated fund to cover unanticipated costs for streetlights.
The meeting will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the Town Office prior to the regular Board of Selectpersons meeting.
The board and Budget Committee members reduced the amount for streetlights from $63,449.51 to $48,000, which was approved by voters. The intent was to remove a quarter of the lights.
Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said in November that the current cost for streetlights was $50,319.66. The town had to pay higher bills in July and August prior to the streetlights being removed, she said.
She estimates the cost at approximately $1,200 each month, which would bring the total needed to $4,800. To assure the town has enough in the account to cover the costs for this year she recommended $6,000.
Any money not used will roll over into the general fund on July 1, 2015.
