BRUNSWICK (AP) — A jet from the Navy’s elite Blue Angels flight demonstration team has skidded off a runway in Maine. No injuries are reported.
An official at the former base where the fighter was landing to promote an air show says the F/A-18 Hornet slid off the end of the runway after hitting ice Thursday morning. The jet spun and ended up off the pavement.
The jet was arriving at the former Brunswick Naval Air Station to promote the 2015 Great State of Maine Air Show. The Labor Day event will feature the Blue Angels and other aerial acts.
Steve Levesque is the head of the authority redeveloping the air station. He says the pilot, Marine Capt. Jeff Kuss, and his passenger were unharmed.
The Navy dispatched a C-130 from Florida with a team of mechanics to check out the plane.
