1929 – 2014

LEWISTON — Cecile M.R. Gelinas, 85, a resident of Maison Marcotte in Lewiston, died on her birthday, Monday, Dec. 8, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, with her nephew and niece by her side.

She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 8, 1929, a daughter of Eugene and Rose Anna (Jalbert) Gelinas. She attended local schools. She entered the Sisters of Charity Convent in 1951 and served in many locations, such as Berlin and Manchester, N.H.; Scarborough; Manitoba and Saint-Hyacinthe, Canada; as well as in Lewiston.

In 1980, she left the convent and worked for Roger Bissonnette Accounting as a tax preparer and bookkeeper, until her retirement.

She enjoyed spending time with her beloved cats. She also looked forward to her many trips to Canada to visit with her only surviving sister, Sister Blanche Gelinas, who turned 100 in September.

She is survived by her sister, Blanche, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Imelda Roy, Bernadette Fournier, Therese Houle and Jeanne Fournier; and her brothers, Ferdinand, Francois, Robert, Roger and Raymond.
