Two schools, two competitive but different levels of college basketball, one more major milestone in the basketball career of Maggie Sabine.

The senior standout from Litchfield scored the 1,000th point of her collegiate career Tuesday night in an NCAA Division II game for Saint Michael’s College against Post in Colchester, Vt.

Sabine, who entered the game needing eight points, took care of that measure on a layup with more than six minutes remaining in the first half.

St. Michael’s cruised to a 77-44 win. Sabine finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

It’s the second time Sabine has become a member of the 1,000 club. She also surpassed that total during her career at Oak Hill High School.

This is Sabine’s second season as a starting forward for St. Michael’s after two years at Central Maine Community College in Auburn, where she twice led the Mustangs to the USCAA national tournament and was named All-American.

St. Michael’s (6-3) already has surpassed its 2013-14 win total of four. Sabine led the Purple Knights with 17 points Saturday in a 69-57 victory over reigning national champion Bentley, halting a 15-game losing streak in the series.

Sabine was the Knights’ leading scorer in five of their first eight games and is second on the team with 12.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. She is also shooting at a team-high .875 clip from the free-throw line.

As a starter in all 25 games as a junior and first-year transfer, Sabine scored 9.3 points and hauled down 6.6 rebounds per game.

At CM, Sabine scored 657 of her career points in only 40 games. She averaged a double-double at 16.4 points and 11.4 rebounds over two seasons to go along with 171 assists and 108 steals.
