BELFAST (AP) — A former worker at a Unity health clinic has been charged with stealing patient credit and debit card numbers and using the information to make unauthorized purchases.

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Department says 37-year-old Heidi Tirado, of Fairfield, faces a charge of felony theft. She is free on $10,000 bail.

Authorities say Tirado was a receptionist at the New Horizon’s Health Care Facility, now known as Inland Family Care.

Police say Tirado stole the card numbers and used them to apply for credit, then made more than $1,000 worth of online purchases.

Police started investigating when a patient reported an unauthorized debit card purchase.

At least four patients were affected, but there may be more.

Tirado has been fired.
