AUBURN — The cities won’t collect Christmas trees at the curb this year, but a local Boy Scout troop will.
Scouts from Auburn’s Scout Troop 121 are taking $5 minimum donations to collect trees at the curb Jan. 10 and 11.
Residents who would like to dispose of their trees themselves can take them to a city spot themselves, where they will be chipped and recycled.
In Auburn, residents can take trees to one of three locations: the city’s sand shed at Gracelawn Road, New Auburn’s Fire Station for Engine No. 5 at 181 S. Main St. or the Mid-Maine Waste Action Corp.’s 110 Goldthwaite Road location.
Lewiston residents can take their trees to the city Public Works yard on Adams Avenue or out to the 424 River Road solid waste facility. The solid waste facility is open from 7:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on weekdays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
The Boy Scouts from Troop 121 will only collect trees from people who make arrangements with them beforehand. People requesting the service should mail their donation ($5 minimum) to Troop 121, United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave., Auburn, ME 04210.
The troop will send a tag that must be attached to the tree.
The tagged trees should be at the curbs the morning of Jan. 10. They should all be collected by Jan. 11.
