1928 – 2014

RUMFORD — Violet E. Gallant, 86, of Urquhart Street, passed away Monday, Dec. 29, at the home of her daughter, Lisa, following a long illness.

She was born in Rumford on Oct. 26, 1928, a daughter of Leo and Dinora (Brochu) Whooley. Violet was educated in Rumford schools and lived locally all of her life. She was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother and aunt.

Violet was an avid bingo and card player, and she loved playing the slots.

Surviving are her children, Michael T. Gallant and wife, Cathy, of North Waterboro, Gary L. Gallant and wife, Cynthia, of Rumford, Lisa D. Abbott of Rumford and Thomas J. Gallant and wife, Tammy, of Berlin, N.H.; a special niece, Sharon Byrne, of Portland; several other nieces and nephews; and 11 grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Donald Gallant; a daughter, Debra Eaton; three sisters, Lorraine Whooley, Lillian Whooley and Leona Byrne; and a brother, Leo “Henry” Whooley.
