LEWISTON — The city has issued a parking ban from 11 p.m. Saturday through noon Sunday. The Department of Public Works wants to keep the streets clean before the temperature drops again Monday.

The National Weather Service forecasts 4 to 8 inches of snow Saturday night and Sunday morning for Western Maine, which includes Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. That could be topped off with a thin layer of ice thanks to the freezing rain in the forecast. Winds are expected to range from 10 to 15 mph with gusts as strong as 25 mph. The winter storm watch will be in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday.

The high temperatures should be well above freezing Sunday before dropping into the 20s Sunday night. Monday night will see single-digit lows.

The National Weather Service declares a winter storm watch when there is potential for enough snow, ice and sleet to affect travel conditions. The storm also could cause power outages.
