1938 – 2015

LOVELL — Elizabeth “Liz” Ann (Diamond) Rowe, born to Frederick W. and Evelyn M. Diamond on April 5, 1938, in Montreal, Quebec, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 1, in her home on Cushman Pond.

Liz spent her younger years residing in Shawinigan Falls, Quebec, and later in Sherbrooke, Quebec. After completing high school, she returned to Montreal to study and work in the retail industry.

Liz met her future husband, Clifford Rowe, in June 1956 in Littleton, N.H. They were introduced by Liz’s mother’s cousin. They were married on Dec. 21, 1957, in St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Liz and Cliff lived in Hammond, Ind., for two years, before moving back to the East Coast and settling in Lancaster, N.H., for the next 40 years. In 2000, they moved to the family-built home on beloved Cushman Pond in Lovell.

Wherever Liz lived, she took an active interest in the town’s activities. While in Lancaster, N.H., she was a member of Lancaster Congregational Church and taught Sunday school for several years. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a member of the Colonel Town Players and the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce. Liz co-owned and managed a children’s and men’s casual clothing store in Lancaster called the Squire and Briar Patch Shop.

She and Cliff found special joy in watching their sons grow and attending their various activities, including band, drama, skiing and several Scouting activities.

While living in Lovell, Liz was an active member of Lovell United Church of Christ, participating in and leading many committees. She was especially proud of the recent update to the sanctuary in the Lovell UCC.

Liz enjoyed many hobbies — her favorite being sewing, with a special love of quilts. She also enjoyed painting using pastels and watercolors. To keep physically active, she loved to swim in Cushman Pond (as weather permitted) or in a pool. She and Cliff enjoyed traveling to warmer climates in the winter, including Florida and South Carolina.

Liz leaves her husband of 57 years; as well as her three sons and their families, Douglas and Marsha Rowe and their daughters, Jordan and Jamie, of Scarborough, Brian and Karen Rowe and their children, Katlyn and Caleb, of South Worthington, Mass., and Mark and Allison Rowe and their children, Isabelle, Isaac and Bethany, of Hartsville, S.C.

Liz was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Frederick Diamond; and Cliff’s parents, Hannah and Chester Rowe.
