1928 – 2015

OTISFIELD — Barbara M. (Bean) Kane, 86, of Otisfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 4, at her home.

She was born in Otisfield on Sept. 1, 1928, a daughter of Eastman and Olga (Chase) Bean. She attended Otisfield schools and graduated from Oxford High School. She later attended cosmetology school.

Barbara married Robert E. Kane of Oxford on Sept. 2, 1948.

She worked for the town of Otisfield for 31 years, holding the positions of town clerk, tax collector and treasurer. During those years, she conducted town business from her home. She also received her real estate license and owned and operated Mountain View Realty with her husband.

She and Bob enjoyed managing over a dozen acres of their wild Maine blueberry fields.

Surviving are her son, Peter L. Kane, of Waterford and Florida; two daughters, Cyndy Kane and husband, Chris Olson, of Bethel and Trish and husband, Wayne Sturdivant, of Otisfield; a daughter-in-law, Betty Kane, of Otisfield; six grandchildren, Bridget Gorton, Brydie Kane, Hannah Bonaventura, Hilary LaPlant, Kane Olson and Karl Olson; and seven great-grandchildren.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband, who died on Oct. 26, 2007; and her sister, Patricia W. Bourque.

The family would also like to send a special thank-you to Barbara Jean Valeri, a loving neighbor and caregiver for several years. They are also grateful for the care provided by Megan, Janelle, Stacey, Elaine, Tilda and Theresa. Beacon Hospice and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice providers were a great support to all.
