1927 – 2015

LEWISTON — Ernest F. Bean Jr., 87, of Buckfield, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Marshwood Center.

He was born in Buckfield on April 26, 1927, the son of Ernest F. Bean Sr. and Margaret Record Bean. He attended the University of Maine in Orono, completing his junior year; while there, he played football. He faithfully served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Bridget Gilroy on Aug. 6, 1949.

He worked at the paper mill in Rumford and had been a sheet metal worker for many years. He was a member of the American Legion in Buckfield and the Tri-County Riders.

He enjoyed reading the newspaper and birdwatching. He loved the family dogs.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia and significant other, Dan Thurlow, of Buckfield and Sally and significant other, Pauline LaRone, of Buckfield; grandchildren, Seth LaPlante of Monmouth and Nicholas LaPlante and fiancée, Christine Nadeau, of Auburn; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Edmunds.

He was predeceased by his wife; and a sister, Ethel Little.
