1931 – 2015

Lewiston—Walter E. Lang Jr., 83, of Oxford, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born on May 27, 1931, in Acushnet, Mass., a son of, Walter E. and Dorothy (Hathaway) Lang Sr. Walter attended Middleboro, Mass., schools before entering the U.S. Navy in 1949. He later served in the Army National Guard and was on active duty during the Korean War.

On Oct. 11, 1951, he married Muriel V. Glover in Middleboro, Mass., where they made their home and he worked locally for AA Will and WL Byrne construction companies as a heavy equipment operator.

In the mid 1970s, he and his wife relocated to Oxford, where he became active in local government and the school system, and worked for the town of Oxford Highway Department. He served on the town’s budget committee and appeals board and also the Oxford Hills school board.

He was a member of the small Woodland Owners Association of Maine (SWOAM) and the Rock-O-Dundee riders snowmobile club. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly hunting and snowmobiling. He was also very mechanically inclined and enjoyed tinkering.

Walter leaves his wife, Muriel “Moo” Lang of Oxford; a daughter, Kerri Bailey and her husband, Michael, of Oxford; a son, Kurt Lang and his wife, Delinda, of Roundup, Mont.; four grandchildren, Jessica, Haakon, Justin and Russell; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Natalie Smith of Marion, Mass.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Robert Lang; and a special grandson, Joshua.
