AUBURN — On Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m., in Lewiston Public Library’s Callahan Hall, the library will host a public forum on cooperative housing and the new Raise-Op Housing Cooperative.
Founding members of the Raise-Op Board will present information on their initiative. The forum will include a brief history of the cooperative movement in Maine, an explanation of how cooperative housing works and a vision for how cooperative housing can be used to improve living conditions for downtown residents of Lewiston-Auburn.
Presenters at the Jan. 14 forum will include Brenda Akers (Raise-Op vice president), Habiba Mohammed (Raise-Op treasurer) and Craig Saddlemire (co-founder of Lewiston’s first housing cooperative). The presentation will include time for questions and discussion, as well as the opportunity for attendees to complete applications for prospective membership. The event is free and open to the public.
