STATEWIDE — The Maine Winter Sports Center’s Active Maine Project Winter Nordic Program for adults commences this month with weekly sessions in seven locations around the state.

Formerly called Arooskis, the winter program is open to all Maine adults 18 and older and focuses on learning and improving cross-country skiing technique, and for those interested, improving fitness for recreation or competition.

Winter 2015 sessions will be held in Fort Kent, Presque Isle, Bangor, Waterville, Farmington, Madison and Auburn. The first sessions will begin the week of Jan. 19. Led by Maine Winter Sports Center coaching staff, each week of the Winter Nordic Program will include small group and one-on-one instruction in a variety of cross-country ski techniques and skills.

MWSC’s Active Maine Project is designed for any adult living or seeking to live an active, outdoor lifestyle. The emphasis is on building community and camaraderie through year-round outdoor skill development, outdoor adventure and fun. Along with skill development camps in various outdoor sports, AMP participants also have the opportunity to join others from around Maine for weekend events and trips further afield.

The cost of the program is $55 for the season. Note that some ski areas also require a daily or season ski pass. More information on the Active Maine Project and the Winter Nordic Program as well as a link to registration can be found at www.mainewsc.org.
