1930 – 2015

FARMINGTON — Betty A. Piper, 84, a resident of Jay, died Friday morning, Jan. 9, at Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center.

She was born in Lewiston on June 25, 1930, the daughter of Bertram Jewell and Gertrude (Freeman) Jewell. She attended school in Buckfield.

On Oct. 7, 1948, in Buckfield, she married Eddie J. Piper. She was a loving and devoted homemaker and loved caring for her family.

She and her husband enjoyed going to Freedom Rand’s apple orchard to pick apples and Betty also enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, fishing in Jackman and camping across the United States.

She is survived by her daughter, Joanne Buote and her husband, Mike, of Jay; her son, David Piper, of Newport; four grandchildren, Adam Buote and his wife, Pam, Kurt Buote and his wife, Erica, Derrick Piper and Amanda Piper; and five great-grandchildren, Brooke, Bayleigh, Mariah, Mikaela and Hunter.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eddie J. Piper, in 1984; her brothers, Gilbert Jewell, Durward Jewell and Richard Jewell; and sisters-in-law, Eleanor Jewell and Marianne Jewell.
