1930 – 2015
AUBURN — Sophie I. Michaud, 84, of Auburn, died Friday, Jan. 9, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Rumford, a daughter of the late Adam and Ugara Volkinick Lozis. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1949, and was married in September 1950 to Gaston E. Michaud; he died in 2004.
Sophie worked as an industrial relations manager at the former Raytheon Electronics in the 1960s. She later worked as office manager for doctors Bournakel & Beale Optometrists, until her retirement.
Sophie was a longtime member of the former St. Patrick’s Church and enjoyed her many trips to Las Vegas. She kept a meticulous home, where she tended to her flower gardens, enjoyed cooking and was an avid reader.
She is survived by a son, Steven P. Michaud and wife, Therese, of Turner; a grandson, Jeffrey P. Michaud, serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Eustis, Va.; a sister, Mary Hughes, of Lewiston; a special niece, Shirley Haines, of Oregon; and other nieces and nephews.
