1935 – 2015
NAPLES, Fla. — Herbert Erland Pulkkinen, 79, passed away quietly Saturday, Jan. 3, at Avow Hospice in Naples, Fla.
Herb was born in Oxford on Aug. 3, 1935, the son of Kalle and Mary Pulkkinen. He went to school in Oxford.
He married JoAnn Raymond in August 2006, and they wintered in Bonita Springs, Fla, and lived in Oxford in the summer.
Herb served in the U.S. Army and worked at Pratt & Whitney, Smith & Grover, Electric Service Company, and he later owned and operated Pulkkinen Construction Inc. from 1977 to 1982. Upon retiring, he purchased a store in Web’s Mills and named it Pulkkinen’s Country Store from 1982 to 1986.
He was a wonderful husband and father, and his grandkids and great-grandkids adored him.
Herb loved music, dancing, dog track, gambling and bowling. He was always ready to help anyone out and ready for a good time with a smile on his face. He will be missed so much by all.
Herb is survived by his wife, JoAnn; three daughters, Kelly Swanson of California, Cindy Pulkkinen of New Hampshire and Lisa Hale of Rhode Island; two sisters, Senja Grover of Maine and Miriam Pecivich of Massachusetts; and special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Carl, Sulo and Willard; and his parents.
