FARMINGTON — Police are crediting two men headed to pick up their takeout dinner on Friday evening with alerting police to someone attempting to break into Mt. Blue Drug store.
Officers Michael Lyman and Derrick Doucette, a state police detective and Franklin County sheriff’s deputies stopped the suspect as he attempted to drive away, Farmington police Sgt. Edward Hastings IV said in a release.
Lyman arrested Kenneth Nurse, 62, of Wilton, on charges of aggravated criminal mischief, operating under the influence and attempted burglary, he said.
Police responded to the pharmacy at about 6:15 p.m. at the Mt. Blue Shopping Plaza on Wilton Road.
The witnesses watched as a plow truck hit the building near the rear emergency exit, Hastings said.
As the witnesses looked closer, they could see that the truck had caused extensive damage to the door, he said. Witnesses watched the suspect vehicle from a safe distance until police arrived.
Responding officers discovered the rear door to the pharmacy had sustained heavy damage, and there were numerous tire tracks, indicating that the truck had made repeated attempts to break down the back door to the business by using the snowplow on the pickup truck, he said.
After Nurse was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital for medical clearance, he was brought to the Franklin County jail, where bail was set at $200 cash. He is due to appear in Franklin County District Court on March 3.
